Dr. Kuang joined ASC in 1994 as our Director of Geodetic Surveys after serving as a Geodetic Engineer at the Superconducting Super Collider Laboratory in Dallas, Texas. He oversees field observations for conformity with project specifications, and performs GPS survey design, data processing, error analysis and network adjustment. He also advises our clients on how to meet project goals and develops software to client specifications for resolution of unique project requirements for major geodetic surveys.
Dr. Kuang's software development includes:
LEVPROC : For compilation and adjustment of digital level data. This was developed in-house here at ASC. LEVPROC reads the digital file, automatically searches for and forms loop closures, does blunder detection, then passes the data to the least squares adjustment. LEVPROC is currently used by several Dept. of Transportation offices around the Midwest.
SMARTGPS : Used to automate GPS network survey error analysis, identify erroneous baselines, and estimate the network accuracy by the MINQUE method. This formerly tedious work, which might take days or weeks of labor can now be accomplished in seconds or minutes. Even an inexperienced GPS user is able to analyze the quality of the GPS data and process it to produce reliable and consistent network results.
REDOBS (Reduction of Observations) : For the reduction of geodetic observations from the surface of the earth through the referenced ellipsoid.
LATTICE_COV : For the transformation, forward and backward, of point coordinates together with their variance-covariance matrices among the physics lattice coordinate system and the surveying coordinate system, in support of the Survey and Alignment Operations on the Superconducting Super Collider.
EMOFEM (Error Modeling of Finite Element Method) : For the error analysis and modeling of the computations of Finite Element Method applied to structural deformation studies.
Dr, Kuang has a Ph.D. in Surveying Engineering (1991) from the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, Canada.
